The legalisation of same-sex in US states has been linked to decreases in suicide attempts for young teenagers.
The research carried out at the John Hopkins University found that suicide attempts fell by almost 10% following the implementation of the marriage legislation. Researchers analysed figures from more that 760,000 students across America between 1999 and 2015.
The effects of the legislation were found to last for around two years after adoption. There was no drop in suicide levels found in those states which did not pass the marriage laws.
